Adventures in Eating

Now that the babies are almost six months old, we decided to give "solids" a whirl this week. Now, the word "solids" is pretty much a misnomer at this stage -- everything they eat is pureed mush! We started out feeding one baby at a time in the bumbo chair until we got the hang of it. Both of them did pretty well with the rice cereal, and the first feeding went as well as can be expected.

After two days of boring rice cereal, we introduced oatmeal and butternut squash. After making the to-be-expected faces when tasting something new, both Silas and Zoe really liked it!

The next challenge was figuring out how to feed them simultaneously using booster seats. We have opted not to buy high chairs in order to save space, so S&Z are trying to figure out how to sit in the boosters. They started out okay,

but by the end of the first tandem booster seat feeding they looked like they were on a ride at Six Flags!

This week we also introduced green beans, sweet potatoes, bananas and multi-grain cereal. They like everything!

Surprisingly, they were the most wary of the bananas.

Of course, feeding babies is pretty messy too. I'm trying to get used to that part!

We have made a commitment to making all of S&Z's baby food, and thanks to the Beaba Babycook we received from Chuck & Gwen and Lenny & Betsy for a shower present, it will be a snap! You cook and puree the food all with this handy dandy little machine.

I keep some of whatever I cooked up fresh in the refrigerator, and then freeze some "food cubes" for whenever we need it.

I can hardly wait until our CSA starts at the beginning of June!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Parks

We decided to get Zoe's haircut on Saturday morning at a place geared towards kids called Snip-Its . Neither Derek nor I anticipated what a meltdown Zoe was going to have. The haircut is half-assed at best and Derek will have to fix it when she's more calm. We were so traumatized that we headed to the park to get the day going on a better foot! We went back to Larz Anderson, the park where the  Psychiatry picnic was held on Thursday . It is really close to our house and is lovely and shaded. I think it's one of my new favorite spots! The kids like it too :) S&Z love playing with wood chips, so there was a lot of that! Snacks were enjoyed on the bench and I tried to get a few pictures of the haircut... Excuse me, I'm chewing pretzels :) This morning we met up with Wendy, Dave, Sydney & Ivy at the Newton Center Playground. It was HOT HOT HOT, and there wasn't too much shade. The kids have inherited my low tolerance for heat, so they spe...

The Best of Project 366

2012 is coming to a close and I have officially completed Project 366 ! I managed to take and post and keep track of 365 photos out of 366 total days this year. I only missed one day and it was for a pretty good cause . Believe me, these pictures don't take themselves. I shot just under 7000 pictures this year. Once I got an iPhone in March all of the pictures were taken with my phone (~ 5500 pictures!). The camera on the iPhone is really good, I always have it with me, and I like playing around with the filters and other editing tools available in photography apps like Instagram, Camera+, Diptic, and Gridditor. Since I have put so much time, love and energy into Project 366 I thought I should select a few "Best Of's". I had a great time putting this together, and I hope you enjoy these highlights as well!
