Operation Fatten the Baby, Part II

Zoe gave us a run for our money her first two days at home when it came to feeding. We were given a minimum amount that she needed to eat each day, and we barely met the minimum on Tuesday and Wednesday. In addition, Derek and I went from getting 5-6 hours of sleep per night to less than 2 hours. Needless to say, we were quite stressed when we went to the pediatrician on Thursday. The bad news was that she had not gained any weight since discharge, although she did manage to maintain her discharge weight. The good news was that she decided to start eating when we got home from the doctor's office on Thursday afternoon.

Zoe's shift in eating was probably related to a combination of things: settling into a new environment, Derek and I calming down a bit, and starting back on Prilosec (prescribed for reflux) after not taking any since Tuesday. It's been interesting seeing the differences in Zoe and Silas' personalities when it comes to eating. Silas also didn't want to eat early on, but we were able to essentially force feed him. That is NOT the case with Zoe. If she doesn't want to eat, she purses her little lips closed so that you can't even get the nipple in her mouth. Thankfully she has gotten on board with eating more since Thursday and at her weight check yesterday she had gained two ounces, putting her at 7 pounds, 1 ounce.

Silas, on the other hand, has exploded in the last week, as seen in Exhibits A and B

We will see how big they both are at their 1-month well baby visit on Friday!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
