The Best Co-Workers (Evah)!

Since Vanessa and I are both pregnant, the LCN (Labs of Cognitive Neuroscience) decided to throw us a joint baby shower. The LCN is very lucky to have a self-appointed "Party Planning Committee" (aka, the PPC, which consists of Eliza, Kristine & Rebecca G). The PPC takes care of the LCN social planning like organizing going away lunches when people leave the lab, or commemorating special occasions like the inauguration. They outdid themselves with the luncheon baby shower they threw for us this week!

We even got corsages!

Chuck's wife, Gwen, came from downtown to join us, and Lenny, Sandy, Rachel & Rosetta came down from the hospital! Everyone enjoyed the yummy Panera catering!

Apparently this was the first baby shower Chuck ever attended, and it will likely be his last if he can help it. He & Lenny sat across the room from one another sending text messages throughout the entire gift opening :)

Speaking of gifts, I was again taken aback by everyone's generosity. We got lots of much-needed stuff, including adorable baby clothes and toys, board books, the Beaba Babycook that will enable us to make our own baby food, a bouncy seat, and the moby wrap that supposedly lets you carry two babies at once!

I have worked with Chuck for 10 years now, and it's amazing the awesome co-workers I have been blessed with now, as well as over the years! Many, many thanks to the PPC and the LCN!!!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

Food Prep

We recently bought a house and moved about 20 miles outside of Boston. One of the changes that came along with a new commute and work schedule is that I have started making dinner for the kids every night, instead of just Friday-Sunday (Julia, our wonderful long-time nanny, historically fed them dinner Monday-Thursday). Derek and I still have opposite work schedules, which means that I have the kids without him 5-6 nights/week. In order to make healthy meals AND pack lunches while flying solo, at a minimum I need to have a well-stocked fridge and basic menu plan for the week. Even better is when I can get some cooking and/or food prep done on Sunday. Before I go to the gym on Sunday mornings I usually peruse some recipes in search of culinary inspiration. Today I came across a recipe that caught my eye on Budget Bytes . I was planning on hitting Trader Joe's after the gym, so I picked up the frozen roasted corn that is the cornerstone of this recipe. The first part of my foo...

Auntie Tracy's Visit

Tracy is one of my best friends, but I haven't seen her in person in two years ! This means that I hadn't met her daughter, Brynn, who turns 2 in June. I was sooooooooo excited when I found out that Tracy and Brynn would be visiting Tracy's sister, Timery this weekend. We decided to meet at Mall Tots  again so that the kids could run around and we could catch up. It's a 45 minute drive and it was a beautiful day, so the kids were hunkered down with sunglasses, snack and stuffed animals on the ride up. Zoe and Brynn initially got acquainted in the bouncy house, And then Zoe pushed her around in a car.   Of course my kids (and husband!) had plenty of distraction with the video games too. We packed up the kids and then had lunch at Buffalo Wild Wings before heading back home. Timery and Tracy are like sisters to me. What a fantastic day!!!
