365: Day 186

7/6/13: Derek went back to work today so I'm trying to batten down the hatches and get S&Z back on a more predictable schedule. The heat wave in Boston continues, so I opted for a solo trip to the Farmer's Market this morning. Afterwards we split up for grocery shopping - Zoe and Derek went to BJ's and Silas and I went to Stop 'n Shop.

Our neighbor Tracy invited us over for a post-nap playdate. All the kids were very busy and had a blast! There was lots to do between playing in the sandbox,

Playing with the sprinklers,

And watering the vegetable garden and picking lettuce.

The highlight of the afternoon for S&Z, though, was learning how to drive the "dune racer" that Josef got for his 5th birthday. First Josef took Silas on a test drive,

And then Silas took over at the wheel.

Zoe was up next,

And finally, double trouble ended up in the car together.

Don't worry, Tracy - we'll be over first thing tomorrow morning ;)

Cook's Notes: We had an awesome mommy lunch before nap today, and I think I set a new record at 12 total components! Included in today's veggie offerings included Farmer's Market sugar snap peas, haruki turnips, radishes, kohlrabi, and cucumbers, along with store-bought carrots; fruit included blueberries and strawberries. For protein there was some turkey, cheddar cheese, and a few almonds, and as always Silas got a dill pickle.

After our playdate we had a simple summer supper of hot dogs, beans, and cole slaw. Silas informed me this morning that he doesn't like hot dogs, so I made him a BJ's salmon burger instead. I put together the cole slaw after S&Z went down for their nap, using my favorite shortcut mix.

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

The Best of Project 366

2012 is coming to a close and I have officially completed Project 366 ! I managed to take and post and keep track of 365 photos out of 366 total days this year. I only missed one day and it was for a pretty good cause . Believe me, these pictures don't take themselves. I shot just under 7000 pictures this year. Once I got an iPhone in March all of the pictures were taken with my phone (~ 5500 pictures!). The camera on the iPhone is really good, I always have it with me, and I like playing around with the filters and other editing tools available in photography apps like Instagram, Camera+, Diptic, and Gridditor. Since I have put so much time, love and energy into Project 366 I thought I should select a few "Best Of's". I had a great time putting this together, and I hope you enjoy these highlights as well! The Blog Book is Here!!!

My friend, Tom, told me about a website where you can order a bound copy of your blog. I've had it on my radar for awhile, but I finally just got around to making a book of the first year of entries. It starts with 'Icing on the Cake' , the last entry before they were born, and it ends with Halloween . It turned out better than I could have imagined! I cried when I opened it... One hundred ninety-four pages of love, photos, stories, and milestones!
