Surviving the Storm

After a lot of media hoopla we ended up being largely unaffected by Irene in our neck of the woods. I know that several of my FB friends had problems with losing power and downed trees, so I hate to be glib. However, this post could alternatively be called, "What Hurricane?" or "Why Did We Have to Stay Inside All Day?". In anticipation of the storm, the prospect of being locked in with the kids for 1+ days was a little dreadful. All in all we had a fun day, though! Amidst our busy and fun summer, I guess it's not necessarily a bad thing to have a take-it-easy, stay in your jammies kind of Sunday...

In the morning my storm-watching husband took the kids on the back deck to check out the weather. Silas hid behind Derek's legs while Zoe relished in feeling the wind and rain on her face.

We had fun with a hurricane-inspired art project that involved colored paper, sidewalk chalk and crayons.

We made lots of music,

This also involved putting a plastic drum on our heads and running around like crazy people. It was 6pm by this point so I think we all had cabin fever :)

As usual there was a lot of time spent running laps around the house. Thank goodness for an open floor plan (and a husband who sleeps like a rock)!!!

Today we were back to beautiful late summer weather. I hope all of my friends who are still without power get back to normal soon!!!

Silas' Blog

Well it's been a busy 3 years since I last posted! Stay tuned as we may have more posts coming now that it looks like I have a new contributor... Silas recently read a book called "Starting Your Own Blog", and now he is bound and determined for us to let him start his own blog! We convinced him that he should start out by drafting content and a posting calendar. We made templates this morning and he wrote his first "post" today!

The Best of Project 366

2012 is coming to a close and I have officially completed Project 366 ! I managed to take and post and keep track of 365 photos out of 366 total days this year. I only missed one day and it was for a pretty good cause . Believe me, these pictures don't take themselves. I shot just under 7000 pictures this year. Once I got an iPhone in March all of the pictures were taken with my phone (~ 5500 pictures!). The camera on the iPhone is really good, I always have it with me, and I like playing around with the filters and other editing tools available in photography apps like Instagram, Camera+, Diptic, and Gridditor. Since I have put so much time, love and energy into Project 366 I thought I should select a few "Best Of's". I had a great time putting this together, and I hope you enjoy these highlights as well! The Blog Book is Here!!!

My friend, Tom, told me about a website where you can order a bound copy of your blog. I've had it on my radar for awhile, but I finally just got around to making a book of the first year of entries. It starts with 'Icing on the Cake' , the last entry before they were born, and it ends with Halloween . It turned out better than I could have imagined! I cried when I opened it... One hundred ninety-four pages of love, photos, stories, and milestones!
